Meet our conductor:
STEVE RHODES is a professional trombonist, conductor and music arranger. After attending Indiana University and Ball State University, he performed for five seasons as second trombonist with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and for over twenty years was the principal trombone in the Kokomo Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Rhodes is well respected as a music arranger. His orchestral arrangements have been played by the Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Elkhart, Richmond, Muncie and Kokomo symphony orchestras. His adaptations of music for marching and concert band have been programmed by numerous high school, college and community bands throughout the Midwest, as well as by the U.S. Army Band and by the Princess of Wales Royal Regimental Band in England.
For many years Steve has been conductor and music director of the Kokomo Park Band which gives an extensive series of programs throughout the summer. You may also find him playing trombone, euphonium and leading a fine band of musicians on the streets of Bluffton during the annual Bluffton Street Fair in mid-September.
Many of the works performed by the Old Crown Brass Band have been specially arranged for the band by Steve. We are truly privileged to have his leadership and arranging talents at our disposal.
The "Old Crown" name is a reference not only to the British musical heritage of the Brass Band literature, but also to the Old Crown Ale brewed in Fort Wayne by the Centlivre Brewing Company until 1961, and by the Old Crown Brewing Corporation from 1961-1973.
OCBB REHEARSALS are on Mondays from 7:00-9:00pm at the Philharmonic Center, 2340 Fairfield Ave., Fort Wayne.
Openings:
We have an opening for a highly competent solo cornetist to augment that section. Player must have good high chops, endurance and be a team-player. He or she will be splitting the part with two other musicians. There may be opportunities for this person to play some E-flat soprano cornet as a substitute.
We also have openings for two percussionists. We're looking for players who have good set skills, competency on mallets and battery.
There is an opening for a tenor trombonist to split either first or second part. Ability to read B-flat treble clef is an advantage but not a requirment.
